    Under the cover of “Blockchain Bandit Strikes“, the notorious hacking organization made a spectacular return, combining 51,000 Ether into a single wallet, totalling $172.2 million. This occurred almost two years after the group had been inactive.

    There was a transfer of funds from ten inactive wallet addresses into a multi-signature wallet designated as “0xC45…1D542” on December 30 between 8:54 and 9:18 by the United States Central Time. Each individual transaction was responsible for 5,000 ETH. The ones that occurred on January 21, 2023, were the ones that the Blockchain Bandit Strikes bandit sent 470 Bitcoin (BTC) together with Ethereum eth-1.11%Ethereum. This was the case for all of the transactions that had occurred on that date.

    Using the weak private keys method, also known as “Ethercombing,” which depends on the brute force strategy for detecting vulnerabilities in poorly written code and randomness generators, the “Blockchain Bandit Strikes” is the one that has created one of the new kinds of cybercrime. According to Adrian Bednarek, a cryptographic security specialist, the hacker successfully broke 732 private keys, corresponding to 49,060 transactions.

    2016 marked the beginning of the bandit, but 2018 was the year that saw the most thefts. During the course of eight months, he had already generated 45,000 ETH through programmatic theft; as a result of this conduct, he became the most significant threat in the cryptocurrency marketplace. Over the course of the past several years, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of Crypto thefts, and this particular incidence has become a significant source of frustration.

    Crypto Thefts Hit $2.3B in 2024 Up 40%

    At the same time, the resurgence of the Blockchain Bandit raises awareness about the crypto vulnerabilities that are an unavoidable component of the blockchain ecosystem. The total amount of money taken in 165 security incidents in 2024 was around $2.3 billion, according to a report compiled by the blockchain security company Cyvers. This is a forty per cent increase from the previous year. Access control breaches on centralized exchanges and custodial platforms were responsible for 81% of the stolen money, equivalent to $1.9 billion. The vast majority of the money that was lost was the consequence of fraudulent schemes that involved the slaughtering of pigs.
